Wow, this book did a great job of covering a lot of historical events from the perspective of 9 year old Melody in 1963 Detroit, (Even though the cover says 1964...oops). There were two highly impactful scenes for me. First, when Melody decides to remove her money from a bank that won't hire her sister because she is black. I found this at the library and was surprised that American Girl had released another new historical character so soon after Maryellen.
