This is an utterly gorgeous Scandinavian story of a little family that lives under the roots of an old pine tree and dresses in red mushroom caps. Each illustrated adventure has a gentle lesson to impart to young readers, whether it be not harming forest creatures unless they mean you harm, which forest mushrooms are safe to eat, and the importance of hard work at harvest to prepare for the long, cold winter.
