I dont know where I first heard about this book. In it, the author tells about her abuse suffered at the hands of her father and from her church. She didnt pull any punches. She wrote about how her father blamed her for her mother leaving and how he would be praying the Lords prayer over her as he raped her. But the abuse she suffered were not at his hands alone, but in The fundamentalist congregation of her youth. Through it all, she tries to make sense of God and her own humanity.This is one of the most important books I've veer read. through poetry, essays, and pictures, the author tells her story of a horribly abusive childhood and teen years, growing into a repressed evangelical facet of Christianity that taught her to hide her feelings and pretend to be whole in order to be saved, and her slow process of breaking free from that and finding something better. I read this book again and again and again and have several chunks memorized. It helps ground me and helps
