I'm a little late to the Laura Frantz party, my book blogging friends have been singing her praises for a while. But now I see the appeal. 4.5 StarsI was very excited to read this book because it is set in the Kentucky frontier in the late 1700's. The author is very knowledgeable about Kentucky history and you can tell she has a great love and respect for the area. She makes you feel like you are right there at the fort with Roxanna and Cass. I was very impressed with the detail of the setting as well as the depth of the story.The story was heavy at times, often melancholy and a little sad, which isn't what I normally read.

I officially have a new favorite CF hero and have added another Laura Frantz book to my favorites list. I love the colonial time period and the story was written so well I felt like I was there. I love how she built up the relationship between the two main characters. It was soooo romantic and sweet😍 I did NOT suspect who the British spy was, so that was an awesome twist! Also, can I just say I love a man in a tricorn hat? 😂😂
