Narration In Pursuance Of Books Horse Whispers (Saddle Club #74)

The Saddle Club is spending February vacation with the Devines at the Bar None Ranch. Colonel Devine has just bought some new horses and one of the mares reminds Carole of Cobalt, the first horse she really loved. Carole rides the mare and discovers that, while the mare has been trained, there is still something wild in her.

Then the mare runs away. The Saddle Club finds her running with a herd of wild horses that lives on the Bar None land. They bring the mare back. She runs away again. They bring her back again, only to have her run away once more. Eventually, The Saddle Club and the Devines must face the fact that the mare wants to be in the wild--and that she belongs there. Carole's encounter with this free spirit teaches her something about herself, too. She has a very special talent--she's a natural horse whisperer.

Another fun volume in the Saddle Club series. The girls head back west in this one, getting to visit the Divine ranch again and we get to meet up with old friends again. Carol has a once-in-a-lifetime experience with wild horses (it's thrilling!), and Stevie and Lisa learn some tricks in the kitchen. Always fun to see what these girls are up to.

I loved the setting of this one, with the wild horses running free :)

It wasn't awful, and I can still see why I liked this series when I was in middle school. That said, Bonnie Bryant likes to have the characters, particularly Carole, go into lecture mode and talk for half a page about horses and horse care. Given the point... of the series, the content of these lectures is perfectly reasonable, and I often found the information interesting when i didn't know much of anything about horses. The way they're worked into the story, though, is less than ideal. I also

The Saddle Club chronicled the adventures of thirteen-year-old Lisa Atwood and twelve-year-olds Stephanie "Stevie" Lake and Carole Hanson. The series was static in time; the girls never aged in 101 books, 7 special editions,
